International partnership benefits Nevis Range snowsports enthusiasts

A new commercial partnership will reward loyal snowsports season pass holders from Nevis Range and the Grandvalira Resorts Andorra

Nevis Range Mountain Experience, near Fort William in Lochaber, has today (10-11-22), announced an exciting winter sports partnership with Grandvalira Resorts Andorra, the organisation that manages all of Andorra’s ski areas, a partnership that will benefit loyal snowsports season pass holders from Nevis Range and the Ordino Arcalís, Pal Arinsal and Grandvalira ski areas in the Pyrenees.

2022/2023 Nevis Range season pass holders will be entitled to a free day of skiing at the Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís ski areas in Andorra, while season ticket holders from all Grandvalira Resorts Andorra ski areas can enjoy a free day of snowsports at Nevis Range.

Chris O’Brien, Managing Director of Nevis Range, said: “We are delighted to offer this fantastic perk to our loyal season pass holders and to host continental snowsports enthusiasts here in the heart of the highlands!”

This collaboration follows the recent announcement of a new two-year commercial partnership with Commencal, the renowned international bike and ski brand based in Andorra, a strong partnership encompassing Commencal’s world-class skis, bikes, and industry presence, a perfect synergy with the Nevis Range’s Adventure All Year ethos – #LiveYourAdventure.

The Commencal partnership has many facets from events, staff attire, retail collaboration, sponsored trails, bikes for track builders, patrollers, instructors, and the hire fleet, all of which will enhance the Nevis Range experience year-round for all their guests.  In the winter the snowsports instructors and patrollers will be using the incredible range of top of the range Commencal skis and snowboards.

Back in July 2022, the Nevis Range management team travelled out to Andorra to discuss joining forces with the gravity sports giant.  While in Andorra, the Nevis Range Managing Director, Chris O’Brien, Activities Director, John Sutherland, and Brand Manager, Carrie Ferguson, were introduced to the teams from the Grandvalira Resorts Andorra, who manage all of the ski areas in the principality.

From these meetings, it became very clear that the whole of Andorra is completely emersed in the world of Adventure Tourism, a shared philosophy that went beyond just one positive partnership with Commencal.  An exciting collaboration emerged linking Nevis Range with every resort in Andorra through winter sports.

Chris O’Brien added: “Very early in our discussions with the ski resort teams in Andorra it became clear that we all shared an incredible enthusiasm for all things adventure tourism.  This relationship is real evidence of the progress that the Nevis Range is making as an international brand promoting adventure and sustainability on a world stage.

“Pal Arinsal in Andorra will be hosting the downhill mountain bike World Championships in 2024 and we look forward to handing over to them after the event here at Nevis Range in August 2023; it could not be going to a better place after us!

“I’d like to extend my personal thanks to all of the team at Commencal for introducing us to kindred outdoor enthusiasts! You can expect to see the Andorran flag flying alongside the Saltire outside Nevis Range!”

Nevis Range is one of the highest ski resorts in Scotland and has been running snowsports activities for over 30 years. The team prides itself on providing accessible ski lessons to hundreds of local children, as well as being a destination for ski touring in the famous back corries.  Grandvalira Resorts Andorra is a wonderful network of snowsports locations running throughout the principality and are an absolute delight for anyone looking for some fantastic slope time on the continent!

The Nevis Range Mountain Experience lies 7 miles north of Fort William, and south of Spean Bridge.

It was opened in 1989 to develop a skiing/tourism facility on the mountain of Aonach Mor in the shadow of Ben Nevis. The development was undertaken due to a demand for skiing in Scotland that was inadequately served by existing facilities.

Nevis Range Mountain Experience is a year-round mountain resort comprising:

  • All-year-round mountain gondola visitor attraction
  • Winter snowsports area with equipment hire and Snowsports School.
  • All-year-round mountain biking with 48km of cross-country mountain biking as well as downhill mountain bike trails with gondola access.  Home to a round of the Mountain Bike World Cup
  • Self-service Snowgoose restaurant & bar (gondola top station) and Pinemarten café bar (gondola base station) serving locally served produce prepared on site.
  • Mountain walks to scenic viewpoints
  • Forest walks
  • Gift shop

The Nevis Range Mountain Gondola, unique in Britain, was originally constructed to transport skiers and snowboarders to the slopes.  Today, the gondola whisks some 200,000 visitors each year to 650m where they can eat at the Snowgoose restaurant, walk out to the mountain viewpoints, or simply enjoy the stunning highland scenery.  The gondola is also widely used by hillwalkers, climbers, paragliders, and hang gliders on their journey to the clouds.  There are 74 Gondolas in total and each one takes up to 6 adults.

Nevis Range has significantly diversified, creating a world-class downhill mountain bike track together with a series of world-renowned cross-country mountain bike trails in the Leanachan Forest.  As a result, the venue has hosted UK and international mountain bike events including several award-winning rounds of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup since 2002 and a UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2007.
