Hillside Outside, the award-winning Tweed Valley-based events team, is delighted to announce The Tweed Valley Trail Run, a new off-road running event with 5k, 10k, and 20k routes through the stunning autumnal Tweed Valley, a unique 100-metre arboreal avenue of light and sound effects, and both morning and night starts, all staged on Saturday 1 October 2022.
In addition, The Tweed Valley Trail Run will offer the Nightfall 10k, a trail running challenge in the dark; with an opportunity to take on both the 5k, 10k, or 20k distance during the day and the Nightfall 10k at night.
The 5k, 10k, and 20k runs will start from approximately 11:00 and the Nightfall 10k head torch-wearing adventurers will set off at about 18:30, and there won’t be any mass starts, making it easier to run on your own, run with a group of pals, start early or stick at the back.
The Tweed Valley Trail Run, based at Hay Lodge Park on the banks of the River Tweed in the heart of Peebles, is born from the same DNA as Hillside Outside’s former running event, the hugely popular Tweed Valley Tunnel Trail Run. It promises a beautiful and accessible running experience with a friendly, community atmosphere, typical of many Tweed Valley outdoor adventure events, local food and drink, and a grand afterparty with beers, banter, and dancing!
The fully waymarked and marshalled routes will alter between dirt tracks, footpaths, and gravel and stone surfaces. They have been specially designed to offer nature-filled woodland, riverside, and hill-top trails featuring the Neidpath Castle, the Neidpath viaduct, and the Cademuir Forest, unrelenting autumn scenery, stunning views of the Tweed Valley to the Border hills, and Tweed Valley Forest Park, with wildlife a-plenty – Red Squirrels, Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, Goosanders, Owls, Buzzards, and Herons.
Neil Dalgleish Event Director from Hillside Outside said: “The Tweed Valley area is now rightly recognised as one of Scotland’s premier outdoor adventure destinations. We’re best known for cycling but the landscape and trails here make it an off-road running paradise too. Outdoor tourism is hugely important for the local economy throughout the Scottish Borders.
“We’re keen to show just how good the running is here and provide a fantastic, inclusive event which new runners will love as much as the experienced off-road athletes. Putting some beautiful lighting in the forest will be a lot of fun too!”
Hillside Outside is keen to acknowledge the huge support and cooperation from Cullen Kilshaw, the official Tweed Valley Crew Partners in 2022, Forestry and Land Scotland, Scottish Borders Council, and March & Wemyss Estate in the organisation of the Tweed Valley Trail Run.
