Major renovation work now underway at Aberdeen Youth Hostel

As part of SYHA’s strategic plan, which includes general upgrading of youth hostels to further meet guest expectations, SYHA Hostelling Scotland’s Aberdeen Youth Hostel has begun a programme of extensive refurbishment. The renovation work, which began in late January, is expected to be completed in the spring and coincides with Aberdeen Youth Hostel celebrating its 60th birthday in September 2017.

SYHA Chief Executive Keith Legge said: “As part of our Customer Service Charter, guest feedback is important to us and comments from guests at Aberdeen Youth Hostel have been taken on board whilst planning the refurbishment works.

“These works include a redesign of the reception areas to create more open plan communal space which will include a café/dining area. The facilities will be further enhanced by the addition of eight ensuite rooms [two existing being refitted], upgrades to washroom areas, floor covering renewal in many areas, extended WIFI coverage, along with additional parking at the rear of the youth hostel and landscaping and redecoration works to the grounds.

“I’m sure that our planned enhancements will further boost the youth hostel’s popularity.”

SYHA’s strategic plan focuses on modernisation to meet guests’ expectations. This plan includes an increased number of private and family rooms, coupled with the option to self-cater whilst providing homely communal spaces in which to meet other people, retaining the youth hostelling ethos of fellowship.

The fabric of Aberdeen Youth Hostel will be improved with some replacement double glazing, improved insulation along with roof and harling repairs.

Keith Legge added: “Aberdeen is a popular destination for all types of travellers, ideally located for those wishing to explore the rich heritage of the city and experience the attractions and hospitality of the wider north east of Scotland.

“We hope that the extensive improvements and upgrades to Aberdeen Youth Hostel will encourage individuals, couples and families to use the youth hostel as a base in which to explore Aberdeenshire with its many hidden gems and castles.”
